In the November issue of Hotel Management, Hilton Lexington Downtown, GM Alex Lugo was named one of Hotel Management Magazine’s 2018 GMs to Watch.  Alex was chosen from a field of 100 nominees for the annual honor which recognizes the industry’s best operational leaders.

In the introduction to the award winners, the magazine’s staff wrote:

Living as a passionista goes deeper than just having a career or going to work every day, passionistas allow their dreams to set their souls on fire and they use this to fuel their daily living.”—The Urban Dictionary
With more than 100 submissions taken into consideration, selecting our GMs to Watch—our passionistas—was exacting. Whether a veteran hotelier or up-and-comer, each presented a unique story and approach in his or her efforts to create a true hospitality experience for guests, staff and community. It was a privilege to get a glimpse into so many great lives. And now we’re here to share their passion with you.

“I was very pleased to nominate Alex as he embodies all the great attributes of the hospitality industry,” said Brian Wismar, regional vice president, who has worked with Alex since he joined the company in 2014  “He has proven to be a great leader since his first assignment in Jekyll Island and was especially impressive during a difficult and dangerous time during a hurricane. He always focuses on a balanced scorecard that balances strong financial performance with equally strong guest and associate satisfaction. I expect great things from Alex in the future.”

The award called out Alex’s adaptive management style; communicating with each associate in a way that is most likely to resonate, as one of the reasons for his inclusion in the 2018 roll call.

“I feel very proud and humble to be included among so many terrific hotel general managers,” said Alex.  “It’s really a tribute to my team members.  I look forward to going to work everyday because they make me look good.”
