THE RIGHT LOCATION
With a significant presence in Halifax with the Westin Nova Scotian, our flagship hotel since 1996, New Castle Hotels & Resorts (‘NCH’) set sights on expanding our Canadian region. Available land was identified in the heart of the new Dartmouth Crossing,
Atlantic Canada’s premier shopping and entertainment district just 15 minutes from downtown Halifax and the Halifax Stanfield International Airport. Important to weekday demand was its close proximity to the Burnside Park, the largest industrial park north of Boston and east of Montreal with almost 2,000 enterprises and approximately 30,000 employees. The Hampton Inn & Suites location nearby the Halifax Regional Municipality’s parks and various recreation areas would support weekend business.
THE RIGHT BRAND
Owners and operators agree that brand selection is always a key factor in a successful opening. And although known in the U.S. for a quality product and great value, the Hampton Inn brand was an unfamiliar commodity in this region. Given our history pioneering the Westin franchise in all of Canada with the first Westin Hotel in Halifax, NCH fully embraced the opportunity to introduce Atlantic Canada to Hampton Inn & Suites. After educating the market on brand’s amenities along with the unique addition of a 150 ft waterslide, the hotel was strategically positioned to capture the road warriors during the week and families and sports teams on the weekends.
THE RIGHT OPERATOR
NCH partnered with Southwest Properties on the development of the Hampton Inn & Suites. This was our second collaboration following a previous project in Moncton, New Brunswick. With a focus on taking care of both his team and his guests, New Castle tasked seasoned General Manager, Rick Norman, to lead the opening of the new hotel. Handpicking the right associates, trained to take the initiative, and promoting from within with very little turnover, the hotel ramped up quickly with double digit growth in RevPAR. As the Hampton Inn & Suites Dartmouth entered into its peak Summer season, they also achieved and maintained the #1 rank on TripAdvisor. The property remains the top revenue producer in the market to date. This successful project led to NCH developing and operating an additional Marriott dual-brand property this year.
